Joanna Nalewajko-Kulikov

Joanna Nalewajko-Kulikov is Assistant Professor at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. She collaborates on a regular basis with the Jewish Historical Institute and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw and also translates from Yiddish. In 2007 she defended her PhD thesis devoted to a Yiddish Communist writer David Sfard. She is the author of two monographs: Strategie przetrwania. Zydzi po aryjskiej stronie Warszawy (2004) and Obywatel Jidyszlandu. Rzecz o zydowskich komunistach w Polsce (2009). Her research interests include the history of East European Jewry in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of Yiddish culture and Polish-Jewish relations. She is currently working on the history of the Yiddish Warsaw daily “Haynt” (1908-1939) and on an anthology of Polish translations of Soviet Yiddish literature (together with Karolina Szymaniak).

Joanna Nalewajko-Kulikov will present a lecture entitled: Haynt – The Jewish Voice at your Home.
