Gershon D. Hundert

Gershon David Hundert is Professor of History and Leanor Segal Professor of Jewish Studies at McGill University. His monograph, Jews in Poland-Lithuania in the Eighteenth Century (2004) has appeared in Polish, Lithuanian and Hebrew translations. The book was awarded the Oscar Halecki prize for Polish History by the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in America. Hundert served as editor-in-chief of the YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe (2008). A web version of the encyclopedia with universal free access will be launched in June 2010. The author of numerous studies of the history of Jews in the Polish Commonwealth in the early modern period, Gershon Hundert has been visiting professor at Yale, Harvard and the Hebrew University, and has twice been a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Jerusalem.
